This was on a display at the library and I picked it up and brought it home. I read it to the kids at the table while they were eating lunch. I could barely finish. It brought me to tears.
It’s a fictional story based on the true story of Harriet Tubman. Each page is a conversation between her and God. She asks for help. He guides the way.
It’s a Caldecott honor book which means it’s beautifully illustrated. I suggest reading to your kids, but it’s reading age is listed as 3rd – 5th.
This book is also in our home right now. This is for middle school and up. This is a Newberry Honor book. I often look for that seal when searching for books to bring home. This is the author’s memoir, written in free verse as vignettes. A unique experience for your readers!
I know I don’t usually make posts recommending things, but allow me to today. 🙂

My family has owned the first book Moses since my daughter was a toddler…she’s going to be 10 this summer…we love it…and like you we first found it on a display at our local library for black history month…our current library is due to the tireless work of a local African American woman… she was the first black librarian in our state… her name is Alma Smith Jacobs…
Thank You!!!!
God Bless You Beautiful
