Development of EP’s new site is well under way. It’s main purpose will be to enable you to customize your child’s level. There will be no more first, second, third… You will choose your child’s courses, and each day’s assignments will be displayed all on one page for your child. (This also means there will be no more “years.” You will just choose ancient history, for example, and it will show up with the your child’s math and English and everything else.)
Since we will have more control over our children’s levels, I decided to take advantage of that and split English into two separate courses, Reading and Language Arts. I haven’t finished yet, but I am hoping to be finished within the next week or two. Reading and Language Arts 1-4 are on the site now, and I will continue through English 7. English 8 and the other high school level English courses will remain intact.
A new course called “Learn to Read” has also been added. This is just the reading program separated out from the Getting Ready levels (preschool and kindergarten). If you have an older student learning to read, this course is for you!
What will be affected by the new courses?
- If you are currently just using one of the levels, this doesn’t affect you.
- If you are using the English page separately, you are going to have to switch to the reading and language arts pages because the English pages will come down. (You could print the English page you are on, but the links will not be updated if there’s ever a problem.)
- If you are using Getting Ready 1 or Getting Ready 2 (on the new site they will just be called preschool and kindergarten), then you do NOT need to use the Learn to Read course. It’s already included in your child’s assignments.
- I tried to carefully comb the English assignments for things that would be out of place if the courses are not used together, but I kept almost all of the assignments the same. For instance, many times the writing prompt relates to what the reading assignment is for that level. I just took out mentions of the book but left the prompt. Your child can write about a time he was surprised even if he’s not reading the chapter that inspired the prompt.
- Sometimes in English I only had reading assignments and sometimes I only had writing, so there were times I had to add in extra assignments on the new course pages. That means the courses are different in little ways from the current English courses. Going through the assignments, I was able to edit them some, add in some more practice, and add in more high fives and hugs!
- Realize that if you are mixing and matching reading and language arts levels that maybe you’ll end up with some short days or some longer days. I can’t compare every possible reading and language arts level combination to make sure they don’t have two quick things or two involved things on one day. I was thoughtful of it as I edited the lessons, but it could happen.
- I’m aware that this could create a gap for a child. For instance, they could be starting reading 6 as they finish language arts 7, so they aren’t ready for the reading in 8th where the language arts and reading aren’t separated. I am thinking about how to approach this. My plan is to make “intermediate” reading and language arts courses that will be generic and be able to used over a couple of years if necessary. There will be a reading list with general directions for daily work. Language arts would be daily writing with a daily activity such as vocabulary from a site where they can keep moving forward on their own. Grammar activities will only be review.
Now what?
If you are happy with your level, please keep using it! That’s the easiest way to use the site. For those who think their child would do better on separate reading and language arts courses, take a look at the pages and read the course descriptions. I also created a guide for deciding on your child’s level. NOTE! This is just a guide. For instance, if you think that a certain level is right, but your child doesn’t know his parts of speech, then just use that level and teach him the parts of speech on the side.

We are missionaries and we use some of your homeschool courses for our preschoolers and some for our oldest daughter but this year our budget is tight since we don’t have full support so we were wondering about language arts for our oldest daughter. She is advanced in reading so all these changes you are making are just what we need.

Thank you so much for all your hard work! I have 5 children and we are currently using your program from preschool through 8th grade. We have been using multiple levels to combine history, science, art, and music for two sets of kids. One of the children is on a much higher level in math then reading. I’m looking forward to an even easier Easy Peasy!
We are new to EP and I was a little hesitant to use the English for this very reason. My son is excellent at comprehension, but thought to paper has been a struggle. Sounds like I will be able to customize to his needs. Thanks for all your hard work. And thank you for your example of blessing others.

Thank you so much for this awesome website! We have been using it on and off and bits and pieces for the last two years, but this coming school year we are committing to it 100% because we are expecting our 6th child in October. We have tried other methods in the last 4 years and this seems to be the only thing that really works and takes the stress off me and my family.
Question: I am slightly confused by the changes. So the whole website layout is going to change? I believe you mentioned that we will be able to select our child’s courses and then they will all show up together? Will there be a way we are going to be able to save our individual child’s selected courses?

Alexis, the website is still being planned and worked on so I do not want to make promises and then have something change. The new site will not be available before September and it will be even easier. There is nothing to stress over or worry about.

As a military and special needs family, I can’t tell you how grateful my family is for you and your hard work! I wouldn’t be able to homeschool if it wasn’t for Easy Peasy. In just the past 2 months we have spent almost 5k on therapy/medical bills for our middle child. Thanks for the separations! I am just getting ready to begin homeschooling “First grade” and found you. Looking over the curriculum earlier this summer, I had wondered how I would ‘explode’ things, given that her reading seems to be at your “First” level, but her understanding of grammar for Language Arts was much more developed from her public school kindergarten last year.
It’s been tricky in some places, but I know it’s an improvement. When the new site is up and running, you’ll be able to build your daughter her own unique level with the courses you choose appearing on her daily assignment page.

We are homeschooling for the first year this year and I was recommended to try Easy Peasy. I thought it was too good to be true but glad my skepticism was proven to be false. I am overjoyed.
I was just thinking as I plan my week “hmm, I have an advanced 3rd grader and a 4th grader with challenges in a couple of subjects, I wonder what kind of “meet in the middle” plan I could piece together on this site for both of them. Well, question answered! It looks like it will be even easier (peasier)! 😉
As a mother of three, one who I hate sending away for long with severe asthma and allergies, one who’s been bullied every year, and one who “can’t learn so good with so much noise around him” (he is autistic), it has been such a blessing to find this varied, fun and organized place to learn. We had about resigned to doing another program that is secular and rigorous to the point of not being enjoyable. Thank you and may the Lord richly bless your family. I know He must be pleased with the servitude of all involved in making this happen.

What will happen to this site? Can we still use it? Just a suggestion: Make the new website launch next summer so that we don’t all have to change everything mid school year and can explore it and make our plans during the summer. I know it would make life SO MUCH easier for most that way:) Thank you for all you do and for making this free! As a military family who moves often and does not have the ability to take our supplies with us, EP has been a wonderful resource for us!

I’m curious if it is still in the works to have the ability to see the students daily assignments all in one spot as mentioned in this post. There have been phenomenal changes recently to the website, and the coming out of the Genesis Curriculum and the readers/workbooks. I am thrilled that this program is available!!! Blessings and rest for your uncountable hours poured into this ministry 🙂
The new website is in the works. It’s being done by volunteer EP dads, so I can’t really control the timeline. We were hoping to have it ready by this summer, but next summer is now the goal with us testing it this winter and spring.
