The Bills Died! Yeah! Thank you to all the California homeschoolers who showed up to fight the bills in person! Thank you to everyone who signed. They told me the signatures had stopped coming in and they were about 5000 away from their goal. After I told EP about it, they got over 6000 more signatures.
There are two bills being heard next week in California. They are threats to parent rights and are specifically aimed against homeschoolers.
If the one bill passes, it would impose on homeschoolers home safety and health checks, curriculum standards, and credentialing of the homeschool teacher.
Please sign the petition to help stop these absurd requirements that assume a parent has no place teaching their own children.
“What occurs in California has a significant impact on the rest of the nation because of its size and media influence. It is imperative that these two bills be defeated for the good of homeschoolers everywhere.” Mike Smith of the HSLDA
Here’s the petition to sign. You just need to enter your name and email address in the top right corner. Just takes a sec. You don’t have to have your name listed on the website.
I know EP users can make a big impact on the number who sign the petition. Let’s get it done. Thanks for taking the time to take a stand for homeschooling everywhere.
I get some great letters. I wish I had them printed and organized somehow. I couldn’t tell you how many people have written and said they were in tears as they wrote. They prayed for an answer and God sent them to EP.
I love hearing that EP is an answer to prayer. Like Thomas, I want to be a useful engine. I like knowing God is using me.
I like to say that EP brings life into homes. I have heard awful/wonderful stories of kids who were suicidal and who now have hope again because EP made homeschooling possible for their families to get them out of terrible situations at school. I have heard awful/wonderful stories about mothers who were hospitalized, dying, or who had died and EP was part of what made it possible for the families to continue homeschooling to keep normalcy and stability for the kids. Then there are the stories of the overwhelmed who have found peace by choosing EP and the burned out who again found joy in homeschooling by coming to EP.
I never want to stop hearing your stories and I always appreciate a thanks, but I just wanted to stop and make sure we all said a Praise God! He has done this amazing thing. I never intended for EP to become what it has. I didn’t plan this to happen. The Lord has accomplished this thing. I’m thankful He chose me to be part of it.
I want to say thank you to everyone who takes the time to answer questions on Facebook. I appreciate your care and concern to respond and to help someone else out. You are part of bringing life into whatever hard situations they are in.
And thanks to those determined volunteers who can literally work hours a day on EP stuff, completely selflessly. You are all amazing. I’m grateful to have you in my life and as part of EP’s ministry.
And mostly, thank You, Lord. You have done more than I could have asked for or imagined. EP is Yours. Use it and me as is pleasing to You.

This was on a display at the library and I picked it up and brought it home. I read it to the kids at the table while they were eating lunch. I could barely finish. It brought me to tears.
It’s a fictional story based on the true story of Harriet Tubman. Each page is a conversation between her and God. She asks for help. He guides the way.
It’s a Caldecott honor book which means it’s beautifully illustrated. I suggest reading to your kids, but it’s reading age is listed as 3rd – 5th.

This book is also in our home right now. This is for middle school and up. This is a Newberry Honor book. I often look for that seal when searching for books to bring home. This is the author’s memoir, written in free verse as vignettes. A unique experience for your readers!

I know I don’t usually make posts recommending things, but allow me to today. 🙂
