The groom, Jesus, is speaking to His bride, the believer.
He says: “You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine…”
You may know you love Jesus. You may understand that Jesus loved you so much that He laid down His life for you.
But do you think of Jesus as being captivated by you? Do you know that He delights in your love? Do you know that He thrills in you looking into His eyes?
Do you show Jesus your love? We need to show our love for Jesus first and foremost through obedience to His teaching. We walk in His ways and seek to love others as He commanded. We forgive and we give generously. We keep ourselves pure and choose to love our enemies. We do and can do all these things only through our relationship with Jesus.
But when we are living in a way that pleases God, then we can please Him further by just delighting ourselves in Him, by finding our pleasure in just being in His presence.
Our songs and sacrifices are obnoxious noise to God when we aren’t living right, but if we are living in a way that pleases God, then we are His delight. He will delight to hear and answer our prayers. He will delight in giving us pleasure and showering us with His goodness and love.
And we can pour it back to Him. Sit with Him. Just sit in His presence like David sat before Him. David said the one thing he desired was to dwell in the house of the Lord and to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and ask Him questions.
Gaze at the Lord’s beauty. Set the Lord always before you. Have your eyes on Him. Thrill Him with a glance of your eye. Look to Him and be radiant. Reflect His beauty because you are shining His light.
