Vs. 5 …you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
Vs. 6 …you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.
These two verses had the repeated phrase, “You do not know.” How much we think we know! We don’t know. We don’t really know anything probably.
Only God knows the heart and mind. Only God knows the future. Only God knows the depths of the Scriptures and the truths they hold. Only God knows the intricacies of nature and the way the world works.
The “experts” of this world disagree with each other and drastically change what they “know” to be true a decade or more down the road.
When will we learn that we just don’t know.
But God knows. In Christ is all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col. 2:3).
We can seek His counsel, His wisdom, His direction. We can ask Him to show us the way to go.
But there is a better way still.
We can seek Him; we can seek His affection. We can love Him instead of wanting from Him. We can walk and talk with Him so that we’re going His way instead of finding out the way to go and taking off on our own.
If we are with Christ, we couldn’t possibly be going the wrong way.
That’s where we need to think about following Jesus and keeping in step with the Spirit, not just thinking we can drag Him along with us wherever we go. It’s not that we lose Christ if we make a wrong decision, but there’s a difference between supping with Christ and Him standing outside the door knocking wanting to get back in.
If we love God, we obey God. If we obey God, we’re living in righteousness, doing the right thing, going the right way. If we are loving God, we can trust His keeping. He’s not going to lead us astray and if we wander, He will lovingly redirect.
He’s got the directions. We don’t need to know them. We just need to know Him.
