“My River is my own; I have made it for myself.”
God’s response to that proud statement, “The River is mine, and I have made it.”
You are not your own. God created you. Jesus bought you. You are not a self-made man or woman. Acknowledge your God.
God brought Egypt low because Israel had relied on them. The Scripture calls Egypt the “confidence of the house of Israel.” They looked to them for salvation. Nations would hire each other to help in battles.
God then says that He will give Egypt to Babylon, to Nebuchadnezzar, because Nebuchadnezzar had worked for the Lord in striving against Tyre.
Can you see God behind all these large acts of nations in history?
Can you see God’s hand in the wars that have gone on in Israel? Can you see God’s hand in our world wars?
God is punishing and rewarding nations, though nothing is that simplistic. God is working out redemptive history. It’s never just about this moment.
God is working in and through nations, but He’s also working in and through individuals. And He is accomplishing His purposes in each individual and in each nation, but at the same time working out His redemptive purposes for His people.
God also shows compassion. The Jewish people have been through so much because of their rejection of God and their rejection of Christ, but God has compassion.
He has restored them to their land. He supernaturally protects them. There will be a day when all of Isarel will be saved.
Egypt gets a promise too of God’s salvation and holiness.
God’s not out to destroy. He’s out to perfect and redeem.
God is good, only and always good.
