The word of God effectively works in those who believe. How is the word of God at work in your life?
You should be seeing God at work in your life. God’s children are kept by God. His hand is evident in their lives. He brings them to Himself. He keeps them from sin. He turns them back if they go astray. Do you know the work of God in your life? Does His word convict you and teach you and grow you up in Christ?
The word is taught so that we would walk worthy of God. Why do we need to do that? Because we bear His name as Christians. We are His representatives, His ambassadors. The Church is the image of Christ in the world. We need to walk worthy of the name we bear. Paul describes them as devout, just, and blameless. They were honoring representatives of Christ. Do you bring the name of Jesus honor or disrespect?
Paul shows his humanness in not being able to wait any longer to hear news of the church in Thessalonica. He can’t just trust God. He can’t bear it anymore and sends for news and is relieved when he hears it.
He had feared that the tempter might have tempted them. What’s wrong with that?
One, he shouldn’t fear. He should trust the Lord.
Two, of course the tempter will tempt them. Since when does the tempter leave Christians alone?
Three, just because a Christian is tempted, which they will be, doesn’t mean they will fall, doesn’t mean they will lose their faith.
Peter was sifted like wheat and his faith didn’t fail. Jesus prayed that his faith wouldn’t fail, and Jesus prays for every believer, not to mention He Himself is the way of escape from temptation.
We can come through any temptation victorious in the faith and love of Christ.
Lord, may we abound in love so that our hearts are established blameless in holiness.
