Who Is Jesus?

Jesus shows His identity as the Messiah, as the Christ, as the one sent by God to save His people, by performing Kingdom works, doing the works of God.

Jesus points out all the types of miracles He performs. The blind see, the deaf hear, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the dead are raised. That’s what it looks like when the Kingdom of God is present.

There was one other thing listed by Jesus. His work included preaching the good news to the poor. Other teachers came to the synagogues and espoused their knowledge. Jesus did that as well, but He also preached to the poor. His gospel was for everyone. His gospel IS for everyone.

Jesus is also the one prepared for by a prophet who was sent to get the people ready.

Jesus is also one who can proclaim wrath on a city because they haven’t repented. He is one who can speak of judgment.

Jesus is one who is wise and understanding. He is one who knows the Father and reveals the Father. He had all things given to Him by the Father.

And we have Jesus who is the one who gives rest. He is one who bids us come. We don’t hide from a God who can proclaim judgment and wrath. We draw near. He says, ‘Come.”

Jesus is one who invites us to partner with Him, walk with Him, work with Him. He invites us to be yoked with Him. It’s a posture of submission. It’s a posture of being set in place for a purpose.

Jesus says that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. He’s going to do the heavy lifting part of the job, but He invites us along anyway. It’s all His work. We just show up. It’s His faith, His love, His gifting, His wisdom, His power.

And yet, though He has all things, including all power, He is gentle and meek. He looks to the Father in all things. He is completely submitted. Join Jesus and be like Him.
