Who Are You?

John knew his place. He knew where he fit into prophecy. He also knew he wasn’t worthy of the servant’s role of removing a sandal from this Master’s foot.

Do you know your place? Do you grovel before God or do you know your place seated in the heavenlies?

Do you act like others owe you something or do you live like a servant to all and recognize their debt is paid in Christ just as much as yours is?

Do you know your gifting and stay in your lane, not ambitious for a role outside of where God has placed you?

John had no problem letting his disciples walk away after Jesus. He knew his place. We’re not out to advertise ourselves or to draw attention to ourselves. We’re not to be attracting people to ourselves but pointing them to Jesus. People should look at us and see Jesus and be attracted by Him and not by what we have to offer.

Jesus has a lot to offer. He takes away the sins of the world. We need to be careful when sharing the good news that we don’t give the message that we get to be “forgiven sinners.” The good news is that we can be free from sin, which is a destructive force in our lives.

We get our sins forgiven, yes, but we also get to be free of sin. The old passes away and the new comes. We don’t want people to “make decisions for Christ.” We want them to lay down their lives, die, and resurrect in the life of Christ. We want them regenerated with new life.

Andrew is sure he’s found life. He goes and tells his brother that they’ve found the Messiah.

Philip is sure as well and has Scripture to back it up. He believes Jesus is the one spoken of by Moses and the Law and the prophets, like Jesus will explain after He rises from the dead.

Philip sounds like Jesus and says, “Come and see.”

Come and see. See His grace and truth. Know who Jesus is, and know your place by His side.
