What’s On Your Mind?

Jesus points out to His disciples that the crowd that has been following Him has “continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat.”

How important to you are the words of Christ? How important is it to you to sit in His presence and wait on Him? Is your spiritual food more important to you than your physical food? Is sitting in His presence more important than your physical comfort? They didn’t have beds, and certainly no roofs over their heads.

I do wonder how long it had been since the disciples last ate. They don’t tear into the available bread or put some apart for themselves, that we know of. They offer it to Jesus.

Give to Jesus the little you have. Don’t decide it’s not enough for the task and give it your flesh instead.

The first thing Jesus does with what He has is give thanks. He doesn’t jump into action. He stops and looks to the Father. “Look to Me and be saved.” Our salvation is from the Lord. We need to look to Him for our salvation.

You can’t save yourself, let alone everyone else. Thank the Lord for what you have and what He’s done and for what He’s going to give you and what He’s going to do. Give thanks to the good God who doesn’t let us lack no matter what it looks like.

The disciples get their thinking sidetracked. They aren’t looking to God. They are looking at what’s in their hands. They have just one loaf of bread. It’s not enough. They aren’t looking at Jesus who is more than enough in any circumstance. They weren’t understanding that having Jesus is having everything. There is no need when you have Him who meets every need. Instead of giving thanks for how the Lord would provide, they are concerned with their lack.

They had the thoughts of man. That’s what Peter is rebuked for. Jesus doesn’t say, “That’s the devil talking,” when He says, “Get behind Me, Satan!” He says that Peter is being mindful of the things of men!
