What Do You Want from God?

If Jesus asked you, “What do you want me to do for you?” What would you answer? What is the one thing you would want?

What’s important to you? I want to love others.

The “thunder brothers” as my kids call them, James and John, want to sit at Jesus’ right and left hand in His kingdom. I’m taking that to mean that what they wanted, what was important to them, was power and position.

Jesus tells them to be a slave.

We are to serve one another. We are to give up our lives. Take it as a warning if what you are going to God for is something for yourself, for your life. We save our lives by losing them. Don’t work to build up your life, but to build up the lives of others.

The laborers who had worked all day were ready to accuse God of injustice since they got paid the same as those who only worked one hour.

We don’t get to accuse God. He is always good and right. He owes us nothing. What we deserve is hell. Be ever grateful God doesn’t give us what we’re owed.

The laborers weren’t grateful for the chance to work, the chance to serve. They weren’t thinking about how it felt to wait all day and have no one choose you. It’s not easy waiting. They waited for work. They didn’t know if it would ever come.

Be grateful that you get to work for God’s kingdom. It’s wonderful to be chosen and useful. Live to serve. May that be what your heart desires.
