Jeremiah 15:6 “You have rejected me, declares the Lord; you keep going backward, so I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you—I am weary of relenting.”
Can God grow tired of forgiving?
There is a limit.
We are warned of there being no further sacrifice for sin if we trample on the grace given us in Christ Jesus and return to sin after tasting His life. We don’t get to just continue in sin. We don’t get to just choose sin and choose God at the same time. You can’t serve two masters. You will love the one and hate the other. Which do you love, God or your sin? You must love one and hate one. That will be the end of it, one way or the other. Make the choice now or your sin will make the choice for you.
There are also plenty of promises of the chopping off of the branch that doesn’t produce fruit. It was part of the vine of Christ. It is removed. There is a limit.
Yes, I believe in the assurance of salvation. When you come to the point of “I no longer live, but Christ lives in me,” there is no fear of losing salvation. You are His and He is yours. He will keep you from sin if you have surrendered your life to Him. As long as you are directing your life and choosing sin, there is no assurance. Give up your life if you want to save it!
Jeremiah knew that he was called by the name of the Lord. This is how he describes God’s word. “Your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart.”
Is God’s Word the delight of your heart? Are His words your joy? Is reading the Bible a joy?
If it is, then be assured!
If it is not, then ask for it. Ask God to give you the joy of His Word, to reveal Himself in it, to open your eyes to see wonderous things. Read in relationship with God; ask questions.
God’s delight is in showing mercy. He won’t run out of patience, but He will act in character and act in justice. He will be holy. He doesn’t ask for sinless perfection. He asks for hearts turned toward Him. Humble yourself and look to the Lord for your salvation. It will be His delight.
