Weakness and Power

Paul gives us an example of how to be a minister of Christ, how to use our gifting to share God’s love with others. Paul ministered in his weakness and in God’s power.

Paul wanted to be careful not to get people’s faith resting on his wisdom. He wanted them to put their faith in God’s power.

Be careful not to direct people’s attention to yourself instead of to God! Churches with their loud music and light shows, free gifts for visitors, social gatherings, etc., are working to attract people to themselves. They need to be lifting up Christ and drawing people to Him instead of to themselves.

There is wisdom to be shared, but it needs to be shared wisely. We don’t need to be showing off the wisdom the Lord has given us to those who aren’t ready to do something with it. Paul imparted God’s wisdom to the mature.

1 Corinthians 2:9 is misused all the time. It’s a quote from Isaiah that says, “No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” It’s quoted all the time to say that no one has seen these things. Except the next verse says, “These things God has revealed to us.”

We have seen and heard. We’ve been shown the unimaginable. God has put on flesh and dwelt among us. He has sacrificed His life for us in order to give His life to us again by His Spirit. He did this to make us one with Himself and with all those who love and fear the Lord.

By the Spirit in us, we have the mind of Christ. He has become our wisdom. We can know and understand the things of God as He reveals them to us. We can’t know and understand the mind and ways of God, except that He chooses to reveal them.
