Vainly Watching for Help

The people of Israel are in dire straits. Things are horrible. I won’t even say how horrible they are. They are waiting for someone to rescue them. They are watching for help that never comes. They are looking for a nation to help them. No one came to the rescue.

That makes me think of John 10. Jesus says that the sheep are His own and that He lays down His life for His sheep. He’s willing to die for His sheep, and He does. He talks about how a hireling will run away if a wolf comes. He will let the wolf get the sheep. Why? Because He was hired. The sheep weren’t his; he didn’t care about them. That’s what Jesus says. God cares for His people in a way that no one else can and ever will because they are His own.

Don’t look for help from the government. They don’t care about you.

Don’t look to people for help. They will let you down.

God is our faithful helper. He alone saves.

I recently listened to the testimony of a Jewish man coming to understand that Jesus was the Jewish Messiah. He had been into New Age. He spent hours listening to positive messages and repeating affirming phrases trying to save himself. It just led him deeper into anxiety and depression. He couldn’t save himself and all the methods of the world weren’t saving him.

Jesus saved him in an instant. It only took giving up and surrendering to Jesus and it was all gone in an instant. He became a new creation in Christ Jesus. That’s what being saved is supposed to be like, becoming new, all things made new.

Look to God for your salvation, whatever it is you need salvation from right now, a physical problem, a mental problem, an emotional problem, a spiritual problem, or all of the above. God alone saves and God alone can truly and fully save. Give it all over to Him. Take your hands off of your life. Be still and watch the Lord’s salvation.
