Solomon is making this recitation about the beauty of the woman in front of him. He had 1000 women in his life, but this one is being praised.
Although a crude comparison, we are each one of many. But God can make each one of us feel as if we are the favorite. He can make each one of us feel seen and understood and loved. And it’s because He knows each of us individually.
Although we are the one body, He sees the individual. He knows the number of hairs on our heads and the motivations of our heart. He knows us better than we know ourselves. We are each loved uniquely and specifically.
I like to say that I know I am God’s favorite, but I want everyone else to know they are His favorite too.
Here are two verses from chapter seven of Song of Solomon. The first would be Solomon, or in our study, Christ, talking about the bride, the believer.
“How beautiful and pleasant you are, O loved one, with all your delights!”
You are the loved one. God sees you as beautiful and pleasant. You give Him delight. I hope you give the Lord pleasure. We can by obeying, by doing the things that please Him. It will delight you to delight Him, to feel His delight and His pleasure in you.
In chapter 7, the bride does understand how greatly she is loved. “I am my beloved’s, and his desire is for me.”
She gives all her love to him because she recognizes that she belongs to him. Give your whole self over to God. Recognize His love for you and receive it, poured into your heart by the Holy Spirit given to us. And then pour it right back out to Him.
Recognize that you belong to God. You are not your own. You were bought with a price, the blood of Christ. He gave His life to you. Give your life to Him, fully, completely. Don’t hold anything back.
The perfect, loving, good God who in His power and strength created the universe with just a word spoken from His mouth wants to be with you. Run into His arms and give yourself to Him.
