Unconvinced

In the parable of the rich man and the poor man who both die, the rich man is in torment and begs Jesus to send the poor man to warn his brothers about hell. Jesus tells him that they wouldn’t be convinced even if someone should rise from the dead.

After Christ’s resurrection, we know the religious leaders still don’t believe in Jesus as the Son of God and Messiah, no matter the signs. Eventually, religious leaders will even remove prophecies from the Jewish Bible because they pointed too obviously to Jesus! You won’t find the end of Isaiah 52 and Isaiah 53 read in their synagogue meetings.

You don’t need a sign from God. Believe what He has already revealed about Himself.

The Pharisees weren’t believing their own Scriptures about who Jesus was because they had made their own version of truth and their own interpretation of God’s word. They added to God’s word.

One of the things the Pharisees were unconvinced about was that they couldn’t love God and money.

They were saying they were loving both. They weren’t. They were deceiving themselves.

One Super Bowl Sunday, I was in a church where the local team was playing. Most of the people up front at church were wearing jerseys. The cross up front was encompassed in lights in our team’s color.

Then we were encouraged to praise God and show Him we were more excited about Him, or something like that.

They were trying to convince everyone they loved God more than football, that they were more excited about God than the game.

But that’s not what God asks of us. The command is to love God with all of your everything. ALL. There is not room for another love. If you have another love, give it up. Sacrifice it. God may give it back, but you give it up first. Choose to love God only.
