Isaiah 42 begins talking about God’s servant that brings God delight. He will bring justice to the nations.
It’s easy for us to see this as Jesus, as a Messianic prophecy, but let’s remember that we no longer live and Christ lives in us and that united, we are the body of Christ. We are the image of Christ on the earth. We are His hands and feet and the ones now sent to bring justice to the nations.
Let’s read this and apply it to ourselves.
We are God’s servants, whom He has chosen and whom He upholds. He has put His Spirit on us, and we will faithfully bring justice to the nations. We will not grow faint or discouraged because He has called us in righteousness and takes us by the hand and keeps us. He has given us as a light for the nations. We’ve been sent to open blind eyes and set free the prisoners, to bring light to those in darkness. And we know that Jesus is the light and that the darkness does not overcome it, so the Light, Jesus Christ, receives all the glory.
I hope that stirs something in you. Praise the Lord for He is mighty to save. He will do what’s necessary to prepare His people for His coming, to prepare His people to receive Him.
John the Baptist preached to prepare the way of the Lord by bringing down the mountains, raising the valleys, straightening the crooked paths, and smoothing out the rough places. In verses fifteen and sixteen, we read about Jesus doing just that to prepare the way. It talks about Him bringing down the mountains and hills and turning the rough places into level ground.
He will take the blind and turn the darkness into light.
I take that as a prayer, Lord. We ask You to do just that for the church, not only that you will bring more into saving knowledge of Yourself, but that You will manifest Your light in the church and expose deception and shine Your truth.
