The angel that appears to Nebuchadnezzar in his dream proclaims “that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will and sets over it the lowliest of men.”
Jesus, in His Sermon on the Mount, tells us that the meek will inherit the earth. It’s a sentiment found in the psalms as well. David says it in the song Psalm 37.
Who are the meek who rule the kingdoms of men? What does meek mean?
Jesus is described as meek. He says, “Learn from Me, for I am meek and lowly.”
Moses is described as the meekest man on earth.
What did they have?
They had reliance on God.
Yes, Jesus was God. I’m not making a statement about the Trinity here. But Jesus took on the form of a servant and emptied Himself. He said He did nothing apart from the Father. He was fully reliant on His Father. He saw no authority as coming from Himself. All His actions and words came from the Father.
Moses knew his inability. He knew his fumbling. He knew his doubts. He saw God use him anyway.
Why does God use the meek, the lowly?
He wants to be God. He doesn’t want you acting like God because our only salvation is through Him and He wants our salvation.
God wants to bless His children. We’re just not good at receiving the blessing. We need to be meek and lowly to receive the blessing. We need to know we don’t earn it or deserve it. We have to know all is from God and for God. I tell God that I hold Him to His word that He won’t share His glory. I don’t want it.
Nebuchadnezzar learns meekness. He knows that you never get to accuse God saying, “What have you done?” Because the meek know that “all his works are right and his ways are just.”
