These words are coming from “the Amen.” That’s explained by the words, “the faithful and true witness.” Amen means truly or firm.
“You are neither hot nor cold” is the rebuke. They make God want to vomit.
These Christians think they need nothing. There are churches with slogans like, “Living the dream.”
Do you know you are wretched, pitiable, poor?
Apart from God we have nothing, know nothing, and can do nothing. You are a depraved sinner. There is no bottom to the depths of your depravity. Apart from Christ you are worthy of nothing but hell.
What these people need, according to Jesus, is to buy gold refined by fire, white garments, and salve for their eyes. What are these things?
Gold refined by fire is a precious faith that has come through trials and tribulations and has been proven. White garments are our righteous acts, made possible by our death and the righteous life of Jesus resurrected in us. The eye salve is so that they can see. They aren’t seeing themselves or God in the right way. They need a new perspective. They need to see the truth of who they are.
God loves these people even though they can make Him sick. He will discipline them. He only disciplines His children.
He wants to be with them, but they are keeping Him out. He’s there knocking at the door. Who is listening for His voice? It’s hard to hear it with the music turned up so loud.
God’s got to get the world out of you, so He can get you out of the world. Repent.
