The Lord Hid Them

The Lord hides His people. I think we can call that a Biblical principle. In this story we have the king who wants to seize Jeremiah and Baruch because of the words the Lord has spoken through them. Baruch was the spokesman and Jeremiah the prophet.

They can’t be seized. The Lord hid them.

They were told to hide, but that’s not going to be enough. I think of Saul hiding himself when they wanted to make him king. He couldn’t. The Lord just told Samuel where he was. I think of the Syrians trying to attack Judah, but they can’t because God just tells Elisha their plans.

If God wants you found, you can’t hide yourself, but if God wants you hid, you can’t be found.

Think of all the times we read that Jesus was not seized because His hour had not yet come. No one was going to lay a hand on Him until God said it was time. Jesus hides himself and walks right through the midst of those wanting to kill him. You can see John 8 for a story like that.

Believers are hid in Christ. We are clothed in Christ. He can shield us as He wishes. Other verses speak of God hiding us in the secret place of His tabernacle.

We are kept from the evil one, but we are kept from his evil plots as well.

I think of stories like Brother Andrew deciding not to hide the Bibles he was smuggling. He just put them on the front seat next to him. They searched the car for contraband and never saw the Bibles in plain sight. There are other similar stories, even of police not seeing someone right in front of them.

Here is a story from the invasion of Israel in October of 2023. This story is from a Christian Jewish woman. Invaders came into their home. These people kidnapped and killed people. The family hid themselves in a room. They heard the invaders going room to room opening the doors and searching for them. They heard the intruders standing right outside the door to the room they were in, but they never tried the door. It was hidden from them. They didn’t see a door there. They went on trying rooms, and finding no one, they left. All the while, inside the hidden room a woman was praying and trusting her God that saves from the enemy.
