When the wicked are about their business, the words we get about the land are things like forsaken, deserted, thorns, and sackcloth.
Until…
Then we get the word “until.” It will be a place of destruction “until.”
Sin destroys because Satan is out to steal, kill, and destroy. Where sin abounds, destruction abounds because Satan is getting his way.
God ultimately is over all. He will watch over the destruction and know when His people have returned to Him, when they are looking to Him for salvation, and when they cry out to Him.
There will be destruction “until.”
Verse 15 says “until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high.”
And where the Spirit rules, we get words like fruitful, justice, righteousness, peace, and secure.
When we’re in God’s kingdom and living according to the laws of the kingdom, then we live in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.
That’s the effect of righteousness is knowing and doing the right thing. We have righteousness in Christ Jesus, by the indwelling of His Spirit. We are compelled to the right thing.
Verse 17 of Isaiah 32 talks about what effect righteousness will have. “And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.”
There is a result to choosing righteousness. It’s peace. And why is there peace? Because there is quietness and trust forever.
What does that mean? What are quietness and trust? They can go together. We’re to have a meek and quiet spirit. That’s one that isn’t demanding. It’s at rest because it’s trusting. It doesn’t need to understand why. It doesn’t have needs other than knowing God’s in control and is faithful in love. A trusting confidence in a good God gives us a quiet spirit, peace.
