The Ear of a Disciple

The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit will teach us God’s word and remind us of what Christ taught. It’s a gift to learn from the Lord. Let Him guide you to teaching. Don’t just consume it all. It can do more harm than good. But also, sit alone with Him and just the Bible and let the Lord teach you His word. He knows it best.

I ask for the tongue and ear of a disciple as described in Isaiah 50 verse 4. It talks about having your ear awakened so that we hear His teaching and obey. If we have His words, then we can speak His words. The word described here is one that sustains the weary. I want to be that encouragement for others because Satan seeks to wear out the saints. They need the encouragement.

When He gives us the gift of His word, we have to receive it and not turn back. God’s prophets had to speak God’s word, and it wasn’t always a welcomed word. Make sure you want to hear God’s word before you ask for it. Once you ask, you better listen! And, of course, you do want to hear His word! He has the words of life, but I do caution that you first set your heart to listen and not turn back.

It can seem intimidating, learning from the Lord, relying on Him to speak to you, knowing you’ll have to obey, but we need to trust Him.

We need to trust Him that He knows how to speak in a way that we will hear and understand and know what He’s saying. We have to rely on Him for every part of it, the teaching, the ears to hear, the understanding, and the willing and the working to act on it. We just offer a humble heart ready to receive.
