The church today is like Israel of old. They honor God with their lips and with their words, but their hearts are far from Him. They can sing songs about surrender and Christ being all and trusting and obeying, but they don’t serve Him. They don’t obey. They love their lives and the world. They haven’t given up anything for God except a couple of hours on a Sunday and maybe a little money.
But God didn’t give up on Israel. He’s not giving up on the church.
He will again do wonderful things with His people. One of the great things is that the wisdom and discernment of man will vanish. It will go away.
We need it to go away. The church has been leaning on its own understanding instead of relying on God. The church acts like it can build itself. The churches are built with marketing know-how. In effect, they say to the Potter, “You didn’t make me.” They act as if God’s word has no understanding of what’s needful, what’s relevant to today’s church.
Israel acted like they couldn’t trust the Lord either. And though it seemed they were abandoned for awhile, God was watching over them the whole time.
He knew the day was coming when the deaf would hear His words. He would open their ears to listen to Him instead of listening to the world.
He knew their eyes would be opened and they would see the Lord’s wisdom in His ways of doing things.
He knew that the humble and poor would see it and rejoice and give glory to the Holy God of Israel.
The scoffers will be cut off, but God’s children will know they are the work of His hands.
