The Believer’s Rest

God’s rest is for the believer. Those who die in unbelief are those who didn’t have faith. We receive God’s word with faith.

We’re told “there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.” This Sabbath rest isn’t not working on Saturdays. This is a continual rest.

We’re told this is a rest we “enter.” This isn’t not picking up sticks on Saturdays.

This teaching comes with the famous verse that God’s Word is living and active and piercing. It discerns our thoughts and heart motivations. We must give an account to God and He can see straight into our hearts.

That teaching is about this rest we are to enter. Are we really trusting God for our salvation? If we are, then we have entered our rest. There is no more striving, no trying to earn anything from God.

We can rest in assurance of our salvation if we put our trust in Jesus. He is a great High Priest.

We are to live free from sin. It’s impossible for man, but it is possible for God. He understands the human experience. He understands temptation. He knows overcoming temptation. Because He is a merciful and compassionate High Priest, we can come to Him confidently and get mercy daily as we struggle to see the old man put to death and the grace we need to overcome and walk in the divine nature of Christ.

Jesus was sinless and didn’t have to make a sacrifice for His own sins. He suffered and learned obedience. It looked like reverence toward His God and Father.

Because of it all, He is the source of salvation for those who obey.

So seek out the true word of God and His righteousness, so that you will know what is good and flee what is evil.
