What is written on your heart? In Proverbs we’re told to write God’s word on the tablet of our heart. In Jeremiah 17, we’re told that Judah’s sin is engraved on the tablet of their heart. It was engraved with the point of a diamond. Diamonds are one of the strongest rocks. They can cut most things. That sin wasn’t going anywhere. That’s what God’s word should be in our lives.
One of the disadvantages we have in America is having so many teachers. When there are so many teachers, we can just pick what we want to hear, truth or not. We can skip God’s word and have it supposedly fed to us through any number of teachers and devotionals. They will bring in a Scripture, for sure, but so did the devil.
Now, I’m not saying all Bible teachers and Bible devotionals are evil. I’m a Bible teacher and you are reading one of my devotionals. But I do hope I turn you to God and His word. It’s easy in America to just skip the Bible reading and just get the message from someone. We suppose it’s Biblical. They are a Bible teacher, but they may or may not have gotten their lesson from the Lord, not many do. They got their lessons from other teachers. They are teaching copies of copies and along the way maybe losing any original Biblical integrity if it was there. And so the same information gets passed around and taught so many times that it feels like Bible truth.
We need to turn to God as our teacher. He gives us His Spirit as our teacher. We have His book. We don’t need another. Yes, I say this as an author!
Jeremiah describes two types of people. One is parched and one is watered without ceasing. Only one is drawing on the Lord and His pure word for their life. Their roots will reach to the ever-flowing river of the Spirit which will keep them alive in Christ, fruitful, and free from fear. Instead of drawing on the well of the thoughts of man, they draw from the fountain of living water.
