The warning to turn to God for salvation continues in Isaiah 31. Relying on horses and chariots was the wise and prudent thing to do if you were a king of ages past.
The church today likes to talk about wisdom and prudence. Somehow, they think it’s godly of them. It meant death and destruction for those relying on man’s wisdom and prudence. Why do we think we’re going to get a different result today?
As God points out to the Israelites, the Egyptians are man and not God. Their horses are flesh, not spirit. Why would we look for salvation from flesh, from man and not from God, the One who gives life and is all-powerful and can be everywhere at once? There is no contest.
All God has to do is stretch out His hand and man is completely wiped out.
Yet in it all, God cares for His people. He cares for Israel, and the church has become part of Israel.
God protects them, delivers them, spares them, and rescues them. He calls to them again and again to turn to Him even as they are revolting against Him.
He will come down Himself and fight. He will fight for His people just as His people have fought with Him!
He will cast down their idols and turn His people to Himself. The arm of the Lord is strong to save.
