Set My Spirit At Rest

In Zechariah 5, there are two visions. One vision is of a flying scroll that’s going to dish out punishment to those who swear falsely and those who steal. I don’t know why those two sins are singled out in this.

The other vision is a basket containing Wickedness. And it contains her. A heavy lead weight is put on the cover to keep Wickedness in place.

The basket is going to have a house prepared for it and the basket will be set down there. The location is the land of Shinar, a place famous as where they built the Tower of Babel.

It sounds like Wickedness is getting its own temple. Will the leaden weight be removed when it is set down? We’re not told.

Why would someone worship wickedness? People love their sin. They don’t want to honor a God who wants them to abandon their love. The sin of Babel was wanting to make a name for themselves. One of the descriptions of the end times is that people will be lovers of self. How many people are trying to make a name for themselves? The problem isn’t with what they are doing. The problem is self.

In Zechariah 6, we’re told that people will come even from far off to help build the temple. God is worth whatever the cost to those who have found the Treasure.

There is a promise of the temple, of a ruler, and of peace.

There is no peace without the ruler and the temple. We recognize Jesus as our Lord and submit to Him. He makes our bodies His temple. We’re reconciled to God. He made peace with us and we live as one, at peace with God, as we submit to Him.

One last section is God’s spirit finding peace in the north country. It sounds like the black horses brought recompense for evil actions. The black horse in Revelation 6 brings economic catastrophe. It needed to happen.

God is only ever doing what is good and just.
