I’m looking at the maturing of the bride/believer.

Song of Solomon 2:6 My beloved is mine, and I am his; he grazes among the lilies.

Her first thought is herself at this point. He belongs to her. Her focus is her benefit.

In the story, the Beloved comes to her but she doesn’t go with Him. She doesn’t go because it’s inconvenient (5:3).

When she does finally respond, he’s gone (5:6). Here’s the rest of verse 6 …My soul failed me when he spoke. I sought him, but found him not; I called him, but he gave no answer.

It is in this state that she changes her tune and puts him first.

(6:3) I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine; he grazes among the lilies.

I left on the part about grazes among the lilies to show that He hasn’t changed at all. The change is on her end.

Then they find each other, and He gives two speeches about her beauty, separating her from the other women. It’s personal and intimate. And now she understands that she was His choice and the prize that was. Her only thoughts of self are centered on Him.

(7:10) I am my beloved’s, and his desire is for me.

Then she wholly gives herself to him (7:11).

Eyes on Jesus. Be wholly His.
