2 Cor. 8:14-15 As it is written, “Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.”

Do we give out of our abundance or according to our means? The Macedonians gave beyond their means, which isn’t really a thing. If they gave it, they had it to give. It may have just been what the world would call needful for themselves. You can’t outgive God. It’s not a thing, not if you are giving out of love, with a pure heart. You can give and meet someone else’s need, but God will just turn around and meet your need.

This wasn’t our proverb today, but Proverbs 11:24 says, “One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.”

Storing up for yourself isn’t a way to build wealth. Giving is the way to store up wealth! Jesus taught us to store treasures in heaven, not on earth. Wealth building happens in heaven, not in investment accounts.

Psalm 49:5-6 Why should I fear in times of trouble, when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me, those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?

We’re never to rely on wealth to save us in a time of trouble. Make sure you have a treasury in heaven you can draw on in time of need.
