Psalm 48:9-10 We have thought on your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple. As your name, O God, so your praise reaches to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness.
I was struck by the phrase, “As your name…” and wanted to stop and think about what it was saying. It seems to be saying his name and his praise reach to the ends of the earth.
Psalm113:3 says, “From the rising of the sun to its setting the name of the Lord is to be praised!” In other words, from one end of the earth to the other, to the ends of the earth. His name is going out over all the earth as it is praised. It reminds me of Psalm 19 which talks about God’s works being declared to the ends of the earth. We can be part of His name being declared and praised to the ends of the earth!
When God Himself proclaims His name in Exodus 34, this is what He says. “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty.”
Malachi 1:11 For my name will be great among the nations…
