Isaiah 58:7 ESV Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house.
There’s good reason to reach out to the poor. There are awesome promises attached.
10 if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted,…
11…the Lord will guide you continually…and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
The Lord means it. He’s not just talking. I once read in verse 8, “your healing shall spring up speedily,” and said to the Lord, “I’m doing everything on this list (referring to verses 6 and 7), my healing should come speedily.” I was healed in that instant. He means what He says!
We can’t just think of ourselves. There was judgment on those doing their own pleasure.
3 …in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure,…
But there are wonderful promises for those who seek the Lord’s ways instead of their own pleasure.
13 …if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure…
