Isaiah 7 holds a prophecy of the coming Christ. Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, it was prophesied that a virgin would give birth to a son. We’re told that even from the time he was little, he would know to choose good and refuse evil.
In Isaiah 7 we also have the story of the Lord using Isaiah to encourage King Ahaz when he and all his people were fearful of the attack mounting against them.
Isaiah gives the message that their enemies wouldn’t be able to carry out the plots they were forming against Ahaz and the kingdom of Judah.
The Lord said, “It shall not stand, and it shall not come to pass.”
In Psalms we saw the Lord laughing at those making plans against His children. They don’t get the power to make those kinds of decisions. The Lord decides the fate of His children. He doesn’t plot evil, but sometimes He will lift the wall of defense, for our good, for His glory. He will always be in firm control, and He will always be perfect and loving in what He does concerning His children.
The king is encouraged to not fear, but he is also given a warning. “If you are not firm in faith, you will not be firm at all.”
There is only one way to stand, all else is shifting sand, as the song goes.
We can try to rely on ourselves, on money, on know-how, on hard work, on ingenuity, on technology, on anything and everything other than waiting on the Lord, but it’s never going to be right. Even if we get temporary relief and seem to have gotten what we wanted, either we weren’t wanting the right thing, or it’s not going to last.
There’s only one perfect solution to any problem and it’s relying on God to work things out His best way.
If we look to the Lord, stand on His unchanging word, walk in fellowship and obedience with our God, we will stand firm. There’s no other outcome.
