Jer. 42:3 …God may show us the way we should go, and the thing that we should do.

The people say they want to know God’s will. Then they have to wait to hear what it is.

vs. 7 At the end of ten days the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.

You don’t get to make God speak on command. Just because you are asking a question, doesn’t mean He has to answer right then. Personally, if the Lord doesn’t answer me right away (often He answers before I finish asking), I don’t try to sit quietly listening. To me, that seems like an easy way to start thinking your own thoughts. I know He will answer when it’s the right time.

Jer. 42:6 Whether it is good or bad, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God…that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the Lord our God.

They recognize that the blessing is in obedience. They think they are submitted to God and will do whatever He says, but once they hear it, they don’t obey. Make sure you are willing to obey before you ask God what to do.
