Daniel 6:24 …the lions overpowered them…

vs. 27 …who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.

The question that came to mind was: Did the lions have power?

I looked up the word “power,” and it is actually only used as “power” in this verse. Every other time it’s translated as hand. I can understand translators feeling awkward talking about the lions’ hands.

But who is the lion that prowls around?

1 Peter 5:8 …the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Does the devil have power? Does he have this world in his hands? What about us?

1 John 5:19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

The previous verse, 1 John 5:18, says, “…God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.”

As one who is still facing attack after attack, I see Satan’s hand on this world. But I also know, I am saved from his hand and am held protected in God’s own hand. The lions overpowered the sinners, not the saint.
