Psalm 108:1 …I will sing and make melody with all my being!
David is rejoicing with his whole being. I want my whole being to rejoice in the Lord. That’s not a token prayer or tossing off a thanks. He’s given himself over to praising God! I break out the tambourine and lyre most evenings. That’s biblical stress relief.
vs. 6 That your beloved ones may be delivered, give salvation by your right hand and answer me!
He’s praising before he gets the answer. He’s praying for salvation in the situation. He’s asking for his prayers to be answered. And He’s praising. Our minds are guarded with peace when we pray with thanksgiving!
vs. 12 Oh grant us help against the foe, for vain is the salvation of man!
David knows that man can’t save, that includes himself. But, he also knows that with God there is victory. He says, “With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.” It is God who defeats our enemies. We call on Him for help and give thanks. Those are our jobs.
