John 6:68 ESV
Jesus says the hard thing and then lets them walk away. He doesn’t try to explain. He doesn’t say it’s not the most important thing so don’t worry about it. Jesus’s concern wasn’t getting and keeping disciples.
There were those following Him wanting something tangible from Him or wanting the excitement of seeing a miracle. Peter knew the reason to stick around. The words of Jesus were life. This is my prayer for the church. Not that people would come for food and stick around for fellowship, but that they would seek and hear words of life that would call them into faith or from faith to action.
May we all only be seekers of the words of Spirit and life. May we turn to God’s word directly when we know we are getting hungry or thirsty and be filled and satisfied.
