March 1

but in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath to the Lord…”

Leviticus 25:4 ESV

In the verse, there is no “solemn” in the Hebrew, just Sabbath observance. The requirement is to be still and see His salvation.

The Sabbath year is an extension of the weekly Sabbath practice of rest. The same principles apply.

It’s not even much of an act of faith because they were provided all they needed on the 6th day and in the 6th year. They didn’t have to blindly trust. They had all they needed in hand. They just had to fear the Lord and obey.

They were commanded to trust the Lord and let Him take care of them. They were to not work for their provision, to acknowledge it came from Him and not from their labors.

Believers are to live in a state of Sabbath (Hebrews 4), ceasing from our striving and resting on His strong arm to save.

We’ve already been given all we need. We sing, “He is enough for me.” Do you believe it? Or do you live like are other needs in life?
