“No one is good except God alone” (Luke 18:19, ESV).
We aren’t good. James says that the man who can tame their tongue is a perfect man. Paul says he’s not perfected and has not attained what Christ has gotten for Him. You are never going to be a good person. Our goal isn’t to become a good person or a better, and better, person. Our goal is to die to self and get out of the way, because the world needs someone who is good, and God alone is good.
We need the life of Christ to be formed in us and to live through us, so that all of God’s goodness can go out to the world through us. It’s His love. It’s His wisdom. It’s His understanding. It’s His teaching. It’s His patience. If it’s good, it’s Him, not you.
Hallelujah that He’s producing good through you. That’s the everlasting fruit, not that we get so good we do all things well, but that the One who does all things well has His way in and through our lives.
