The centurion has money and power, but he doesn’t consider himself worthy to have Jesus come under his roof. The Jewish leaders who have benefited from the centurion’s generosity tell Jesus he is worthy for him to come.
The non-Jew soldier understood Jesus better than the Jewish elders. God doesn’t ask someone to prove they are worthy of being saved. We are all worthy of not being saved.
We hear nothing of the servant’s faith, the one who is healed. He receives healing because of the faith of someone who loved him.
The widow loved her son and Jesus had compassion.
Love covers a multitude of sins.
Jesus shows a different kind of love to John the Baptist. John’s having doubts. This is the man who had God point out to him who the Savior was by having the Holy Spirit appear as a dove and come down on Jesus. This is the man who announced, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!” He wants to know if Jesus is the one.
Jesus doesn’t go and comfort and reassure him.
Jesus doesn’t give a response right away. First, he heals a lot of people, including blind people, and he frees people of evil spirits and plagues! Then Jesus sends the messengers back with some Scripture.
The Bible holds the truth. That’s where we find our confirmation. John had heard from the Lord and seen a vision, but now he was assured by confirmation through the Word of God.
Jesus points out to the religious leaders that they are against everything. It didn’t matter what God’s people did; they didn’t like it.
They really didn’t like when a “sinful” woman worshiped Jesus. She cleaned His feet and anointed them. Jesus knows their thoughts and defends the woman and defends receiving her care.
Jesus pronounces the woman saved by her faith, telling her she is forgiven. She loved much because she was forgiven much.
We all need to realize the unending depths of our depravity and respond with unending love and adoration!
