Knowing How

Talking about the Israelites in Samaria, God says, “They do not know how to do right.”

They are destroyed for their lack of knowledge, though God saves still. He rescues a remnant. It’s described as rescuing a corner of the couch and a part of a bed. They will be torn to pieces, but a part will be rescued out.

How do we learn how to do right? If there is no good in us, if none is righteous, how do we know?

We know Christ.

I no longer live but Christ lives in me. He’s the knowing. He’s the doing. He’s the willing and the working.

He is our righteousness, our knowing what’s right and the doing of it.

We can only know how to do right by knowing Christ. How do we know Christ? We have to get to know Him through His word and through time spent with Him.

To know Him intimately, fully, we have to give our lives fully over to Him. You have to surrender your rights to your life.

As long as you are still making decisions about whether or not you are going to do something, you aren’t surrendered. You are holding onto the right to decide to obey or not. A servant doesn’t get to decide what order to listen to and follow through on. A servant obeys without taking thought.

We have to submit in that way. We have to have already made the decision that obedience is non-optional. We do it. We live God’s ways in everything we know to obey and trust Him to teach and direct us in the rest of it.

He’s the only one that knows the right way to go, the right thing to do. Know Him and know how to do what is right.
