Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to David his father, at the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
2 Chronicles 3:1
Mount Moriah is where the “Lord provides,” where Abraham had his knife out and the angel called out to stop and provided a sacrifice. The Lord leads David to the same place as recorded at the end of 1 Chronicles, but the roles are reversed. The angel has the knife, the sword, unsheathed, and David offers a burnt offering and calls out. God’s hand is stayed.
God used David’s sin in the census to lead him to the spot God had chosen for His temple. It’s where an atoning sacrifice would stay the Lord’s hand. God uses all things. He always acts on purpose.
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means!
Romans 6:1-2a
Just because God can use all things, does not make sin ever okay. Read Romans 6 until you believe you are dead to sin and alive to righteousness in Christ. We’re either slaves to sin or righteousness. Which are you going to choose to serve?
