The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
Psalm 11:5 ESV
What struck me was the contrast, that the test was for the righteous, not the wicked, whom the Lord hates. The test is for the one the Lord loves. It’s a gift. The Lord doesn’t bring you to a test, to a decision between God and self in order for you to fail. He intends no harm. He loves you. He’s bringing you to the point of victory. There may be stumbling and fumbling along the way, but His plan is to get you to the victory. His intentions are always kind, always for your good. We read a promise for the one who overcomes and chooses what is right.
For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.
Psalm 11:7 ESV
