“So Jesus said to them, ‘The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going’” (John 12:35, ESV).
The light is among you for a little while longer. Jesus was talking about Himself. He is the light of the world. We need to walk in the light. If we don’t, we have a warning: the darkness will overtake you. There is no standing still in Christ Jesus. We march on, climb upwards, ever pursuing that which is ahead, as Paul said. That’s how we stay free of the darkness. Stopping our forward movement is a danger. Ease and comfort are a danger; like the hare taking a nap and letting the tortoise pass him by and win.
We have commands to stay awake, be alert. We keep our eyes on the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. He’s ever calling us up, out of the clouds, into His marvelous light.
