The fourth of July is America’s birthday. It is the day that Congress approved the document that declared America, America! It’s own, independent, country.
On July 4, 1776, Continental Congress made official the Declaration of Independence. It declared that the colonies in North America had the right to rule themselves. The King of England had been their ruler and fought to keep America as part of the British Empire.
The Revolutionary War was fought between America and Great Britain, and won America the freedoms it enjoys today.
