In Or Out

Few find life. The way there is hard.

How can we be told the harvest is plentiful and be told few are going to find life?

The way is easy and broad that leads to destruction. When people see the choice, they choose the easy way. We’re always after ease and comfort.

When you are wanting ease and comfort and to get out of whatever hard thing the Lord has chosen for you, do you recognize it’s a choice of abandoning the way of life for the path of destruction?

The way to life is the path of righteousness. The Lord leads His people in righteousness. We walk on it by choosing submission and obedience, by choosing death to self and love of others.

If your life is showing obedience and selfless love, then you are producing good fruit. If not, you are diseased and in danger of being cut down and thrown into the fire.

I absolutely believe in the assurance of salvation. I have it. The Lord will keep me on the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

But those who are turned away from the entrance of the kingdom of heaven are those calling Jesus, “Lord.” They are people who served God. They did deeds of power using the name of Jesus, as did Judas.

Jesus says that He never knew them. It’s not that they lost their assured salvation. They never had it. They weren’t on the path of righteousness. Jesus calls them lawless. If they were lawless, we can be sure they weren’t loving others, which is the sum of the Law. They were using God’s name in vain, using it to accomplish for self instead for pouring out love.

We get a story about obedience verses lawlessness in the story of the two builders. We could say loves others or loves self. One is wise. One is foolish. One remains, abides. One falls.

What path are you on?
