The Lord purposes to bring down the pride that the nations glory in and to bring dishonor on all that the earth holds honorable.
God alone receives the honor and glory.
We need to stop revering people. I have no idea why we have awards for Christians except that we are imitating the world. To me it seems like a grab at more money.
If man is to be honored, best to let God do it. In Psalm 91:15, God promises to honor the one who holds fast to Him in love and knows His name, and calls on Him for salvation.
In Isaiah 55:5 God says, “Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.” He will glorify those who come to Him for life, who delight themselves in God’s word and are satisfied with what God offers.
One of the things I pray is to be prepared to receive the blessing. Receiving honor and glory is hard for a Christian. They have to remember it’s not really theirs. God is all. He gave us all things and accomplishes all things for us. Everything is from Him and through Him and for Him to His glory!
Not that I am seeking to receive honor and glory, but if He gifts someone with teaching or healing or prophecy, etc., they can be given an audience. That can be a tricky thing for a Christian. The goal always has to be to please God, not man. Paul, in Galatians 1:10 says that if he were still trying to please men, he wouldn’t be a servant of Christ. Those are strong words.
But if we can keep our eyes off of ourselves and on Jesus, then we receive the reward. The reward, of course, is God Himself, but He loves giving gifts to His children.
Those who are holy to the Lord, set apart to Him, will receive the gifts and provisions that are holy to the Lord, set apart for His use, like His children who have been consecrated to Him. The last verse of the chapter talks about the wealth of the wicked supplying those who dwell before the Lord, the Lord’s own possession.
