Jesus taught them, “again.” He was accustomed to teaching them. He did it “again.” He didn’t give up on them. He taught them again. We teach our children again and again. We have to be taught the same lessons again and again. God is patient with us to teach us, again.
We need to offer the same patience to others that God shows us. We need to be willing to offer ourselves to them again, and again, whatever the Lord has given us to share.
Jesus gives a command about marriage saying, “Let not man separate.” That also applies to us and the Lord. The Church is the bride of Christ. Marriage is the symbol given of the description of Christ and the church. Let man not separate.
God will remain faithful. He can’t do otherwise. But man can. We must make the choice to remain. That’s abiding. We dig in, hold on, and refuse to be moved away by the devil’s distractions.
Jesus said we need to be like the little children. They aren’t weighed down by all the things of the world. They run to their father and trust his strong arms to carry them.
The rich young ruler gets it partly right. Did you notice he runs to Jesus? Many sought from Jesus. The rich young ruler felt an urgency. He ran. If you aren’t leaning on Christ, abiding in His presence, then run, run to Him!
Something else the rich young ruler gets right is that he sought to keep the commandments. Jesus loved him. And because Jesus loved him, He stopped and told the young man the truth.
There was a command he wasn’t keeping, the greatest command. We’re to love God with all of our everything. He loved his money and his possessions. He walks away sorrowful. I do hope it was a sorrow that leads to repentance. Jesus wasn’t trying to keep the young man from heaven. He was showing him the way to Life.
