Grain, Wine, Oil

God gives a promise to His people. There is going to be a terrible and awesome day of the Lord. That’s the end and the beginning. It’s not over.

There will be a new beginning. The day of the Lord ushers in Jesus’ reign.

There are two things happening here. We have Jesus’ physical reign and Jesus’ spiritual reign.

It talks about sending grain, wine, and oil to satisfy His people and how they won’t be a reproach among the nations any more. Israel is still a reproach among the nations today. We aren’t there yet. This comes after.

God promises to restore what had been destroyed in Israel and promises to pour out His Spirit on all flesh. In the end, all Israel will be saved. All will get a new heart and get His Spirit.

That’s the physical restoration of Israel. There’s a spiritual one that happened two thousand years earlier.

On the day of Pentecost when the Spirit is poured out, Peter quotes Joel 2 about the Spirit being poured out on all flesh. That’s how he was interpreting that event through the Spirit. The word is that there would be prophesies, dreams, and visions.

We live in the age of the Spirit poured out and God speaking to all His people, not just to a few.

He gives His people grain, wine, and oil and satisfies them. Jesus was for us the broken bread and wine poured out as He sacrificed His life on the cross to give us an escape from God’s wrath and bring us into the satisfaction of His loving presence.

When we come into Christ, He starts turning around our lives. He takes what was broken and makes it beautiful. He turns everything for our good. He shows He had purpose for our lives. The pain becomes a gift. He restores all things.

I talk about coming into the double portion, referring to the end of Job’s story. When I make it through a long trial, there’s a double portion on the other side that’s mine to keep. It’s not going away again. That part of my life has been restored into the Lord’s design. What the locust had stolen, the Lord returned and multiplied into blessing.

Salvation isn’t just about heaven. We are to live in His salvation every day. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
