In the beginning. It’s a flashback to Genesis. There was creation with the Spirit hovering over the waters and then a God who speaks a word and through the word all creation comes into existence.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Jesus is the Word and Colossians 1:16 repeats what we are told by John, that all things were created through Jesus.
He was in the beginning. He will be there in the end.
In Jesus was life and light, and darkness will never overcome Him. The closest Darkness came to overcoming Jesus was Jesus’ death on the cross, which led to the greatest victory ever for all of mankind.
The Word put on flesh, came into a womb, was born and raised, served and died. But He was more than flesh. He was God and gives us, who believe, the right to become children of God. Jesus is God’s son. God’s not trying to gather slaves for Himself, but sons and daughters.
When Jesus came, we were given a glimpse of God’s glory. What did it look like? Grace and truth.
And in doing so, He made God known to us. He’s the visible image of the invisible God, and He looked like grace and truth.
Jesus was honest in His heart and in His dealings, but more than that, He was the Truth. The Word is True and He was the Word. He knew the truth better than anyone, because He knew God’s Word better than anyone.
When He spoke the Word, the Truth, He did it with grace. He had gracious words. His words were kind. His words were thoughtful. His words gave life to the hearer.
Jesus’ grace, His beauty, was in His heart, seen in His actions, and expressed through His words.
