Good Works

Good behavior isn’t just for leadership. Every believer is a representative of Christ. We are all to be encouraging each other to good works.

Others in the church can encourage us toward the world. Resist. Be the light and encourage them to walk in the Light of Christ.

Our good works show in the life of the Spirit in us. We have the fruit of the Spirit and love others. We are kind and good and self-controlled. We are reverent in our behavior, showing respect to others.

We certainly aren’t addicted to alcohol. We speak well of each other and live uprightly, so others don’t have anything bad to say about us. (Think of the bad guys trying to come up with something against Daniel and couldn’t because he was such a good guy!)

Women in particular are told to submit to their own husbands and to “work at home.” When I did a study on “workers at home” years back, I came away with an understanding of being “profitable in the home.” We’re not to be lazy, idle. We can be profitable through doing the housework, cooking and such. It doesn’t have to mean earning or not earning money.

In whatever we do, we’re to be exemplary. Our lives can “adorn the doctrine of God.” We can make God’s truth beautiful. People should see the beauty of God’s truth by looking at our lives.

We can live that way because of God’s grace and only because of God’s grace. By God’s grace we leave ungodliness and worldly desires. God’s grace trains us and teaches us to say no. By God’s Spirit we have the power to say no to sin, self, and the world and to live self-controlled and upright.

It’s all possible because of Jesus. He redeemed us, bought us out of slavery to sin and lawlessness.

We are washed in His blood so He could make a people for Himself.

Who are His people? The ones zealous for good works.

What gets you excited? Where is your zeal?
